So we’ve had a few years or approximately 5 years (congrats Blizzard) to figure out what is going on during a holiday weekend like Thanksgiving and from what I have observed in my 4 participating weekends is that this Black Friday just isn’t for the retail sector it’s can be a Black Friday for you in game as well.

Friday is a day off for most of the masses in the US (except those working in retail).   So one thing for sure,  you’re going to see more players on than usual compared to previous weekends this fall.   This doesn’t bode well for the farmers,  things are going to be a bit crowded.   There is some upside to this,  you might be able to find a pug to get a Nax done if you haven’t gotten out in a while,  it might be easier to put a 5 man team together to chain heroics but if you’re bottom line is you focus,  you might want to grab those reserve funds and make some money playing the markets in AH.

If you’ve never done any day trading in AH.   Here’s a few pieces of advice before you go betting piles of gold on certain commodities.

1. Do your research,  if you aren’t using an AH add-on to track market prices.  I’d suggest going over to WOWOAH.com to check your prices.  It’s not as efficient as Auctioneer or some other add-on’s but this is a great place to do some research to help you spot good markets and make educated bets on trading certain items.

2.  Don’t bet the farm on a single item,  what I’m saying here is that you’ve got a real opportunity to shoot yourself in the foot by putting all your eggs in one basket.  It only takes one guy to show up and dump enough mats in there to keep you out of making a reasonable profit or let your efforts turn into a loss,  so diversify.

3.  Set a goal for yourself.  If you’ve got 5000 gold you’re willing to risk,  set a reasonable goal for yourself.  Sure it’s a great weekend to make some extra gold,  but it’s really easy to throw the blinders on and waste a day playing markets.   Go enjoy the other content or even better yet don’t forget to go spend some time with your RL Guild (aka Family) too.

4.  Try to be that guy that doesn’t buy stuff in the AH this weekend.  You’ll be paying some higher prices for sure.  Holding off until next week to make those expensive purchases will save you boat loads.

5.  When the Black Friday hangover hits next week,  keep an eye on prices.  There will be some really good deals.  Take a look at our Patch Notes section for items you might pick up on the cheap that you can resell for a much higher number in the next couple weeks when patch 3.3 hits.

Ok,  it’s not spring but the G/F just started playing WoW again,  she dinged 80 and of course I needed to be that guy to help her get some crafted gear to at least get her comfortably tanking the 5 mans.  I thought it would be a great time to maybe clean out some bags which lead to this story.  If you’re an Alt-a-holic like me, you’ve got a number of toons you’ve carried through Vanilla WoW and TBC and if that’s the case,  you might want to take a look at reputation turn ins.  You’re probably sitting on a pot of gold and you didn’t know it.

What you’re capitalizing on here are the Achievement junkies of the game who are focused on trying to get the Reputation Achievements completed.   I decided to go through all my Alt’s and push every Rep item that wasn’t nailed down over to my Bank Auction Alt to see what kind of gold that would generate and I was actually pretty surprised.  The Achievement folks are still buying these items up in quantity and most of the items I posted were gone the day I listed.  As a matter of fact, every reputation item I listed was sold which made me think I left some gold on the table but oh well.  Here’s a breakdown on that spring cleaning.

If you’re looking to come up with some coin,  spring cleaning is always a great way to do it and make some bag space.  Sure you may want to chase those reputation Achievements some day,  if that’s the case I would hold on to them.  But if you’re like me and you take Achievements as they come along,  then consolidating and dumping these items in AH may let you craft a few pieces of gear,  cover your raiding costs for a while,  help come up with the coin for another epic flyer or even help gear out your better half just like me.

Although online reporting of AH data is available,  there seems to be a new player entering the market.   Eldadcorp has lauched a Online Auction House Site over www.wowoah.com.  Although not the easiest site name to remember,  it seems to be a noteworthy addition to the Auction Houes data space.  It is worthy to note that the site is still in Alpha with releases coming frequently.

This space is currently occupied by some other sites including WoWecon, Allakhazam, and the independent development project by Norganna who is the author of Auctioneer,  the AuctioneerDB site.   After the break will tear down WOWOAH a little bit more for the readers.

First off we wanted to dig behind the owners of WOWOAH a little bit and see what we were able to disect.  Eldacorp is the owner,  in going to its corporate website it seems to be a template website bought from one of the many sellers and put some basic content on the page.   From the Eldacorp homepage,  there is also reference to Guild Hosting services.  It seems the shop wants to take a run at the market currently occupied by Guild Portal,  Guild Launch and MyGuildHost among others.   Unfortunately,  being a template,  none of the links were brought live to offer any other information.  What is refreshing is that in digging a little deeper,  this doesn’t appear to be owned by another gold selling company.  The site appears to be owned and operated by two related individuals.  We couldn’t find the legal business registration as of yet but one thing for sure is we want to be careful we’re not using a site that would load a keylogger on a players machine.

In looking at WOWOAH.com  we did feel like it had a relatively good user interface,  keeping it simple much in the like of WoW Head.  I decided to check the validity of the data and it appears to be a day behind by default with an option to search live if you check the box.  The data that is a day old seems to pull up pretty fast however when looking for live data it took about a minute for a given item to pull up but it was nice to see that the data was accurate.

For those of us that enjoy playing the economic aspects of the game,  this certainly will be a geat tool and who are we to shun another resource.  I believe we’ll find many AH players looking WOWOAH.com here to check out trends,  validate theories and look to spot changes in item prices where a move to make some quick gold can be found.

All in all,  this looks very promising.   The WoW Economist will be checking in for future Alpha releases and updating the community.   Right now this is free to use but no information has been provided about how the site will operate once it’s moves from Alpha production although when accounting for total amount of data stored,  the question will be whether the free to use advertising model will be sustainable based on data pipeline and storage costs.
